Many of our camp leaders grew up since they were 5 and 6 years old, going to a camp based in Athens called Wild Intelligence. The young men that ran this camp studied and trained with the Lakota People and also Jon Young, well known author and mentor for connecting people to nature. For the last 26 years, Jon has been mentoring folks in the nearly lost art of understanding bird and animal language.  He built a deep understanding of the language of nature through his mentoring with now famous tracker and author Tom Brown, Jr. 

We play games and activities to engage the campers with  the ‘coyote teachings’ -which include learning earth skills and about our local ecology. We also bring in guest teachers from the community who teach a variety of things including bow drill fire, nature art  and pottery so that our camp leaders are learning as well as teaching during the summer. And most importantly, each leader brings their own knowledge and experience, and we make space for the leaders to teach their interest on guild days-and so we are all learning from each other –and we do learn a ton from the campers as young children, they are so aware of the magic in the world.
